The Wall on Crenshaw Boulevard

'When completed, Destination Crenshaw will be the place to experience the most dynamic expression of Black American culture in the United States. A 1.3-mile stretch of Crenshaw Boulevard will be transformed from an area that has long deserved economic investment and strategic urban planning, into a thriving commercial corridor linked by architecturally stunning community spaces and pocket parks, hundreds of newly planted trees, and over 100 commissioned works of art.’ Destination Crenshaw

Additional Details: The Los Angeles Metro Rail extension connecting LAX to central LA will go above ground at Crenshaw Boulevard, creating an opportunity to showcase the area’s vibrant and storied arts, history and culture. In transforming 1.3 miles of the ‘Shaw into a multimedia “outdoor museum,” the Destination Crenshaw experience will become the nation’s largest expression of African American art and cultural contribution. Ten new parks with permanent and rotating art installations, innovative digital, interactive and physical exhibits and entirely new streetscapes will celebrate the long-standing reputation of the neighborhood as a creative incubator, as well as Black LA’s impact on popular culture and social change.

Freedom & Justice For All Award Tribute Film, Nancy Pelosi

Role: Executive Creative Producer with Gallagher & Associates
Location: Washington DC
Date: October, 2019
Additional Details: This moving three-minute video was commissioned by the LBJ Foundation to honor Speaker Pelosi at their annual Liberty and Justice for All tribute in 2019. In addition to the use of rich archival imagery and sound design, the video required production of new interviews with Speaker Pelosi at her office in the Capitol, her daughter Alexandra Pelosi and former president Barack Obama. The video was live-streamed to millions of people in conjunction with the live tribute event on October 30, 2019, and “lives” at the LBJ Foundation and Presidential Library in Austin, TX.

Additional Details: Eight integrated, narrative media environments were produced for the show. These included a 180º intro film and theatre, an “object theatre” environment with media working in coordination with ancient artifacts, lighting and score, thematic “timeline” films, a finalé projection experience and three audio environments. Development of all media was done in close coordination with the client, IMG, and the content, exhibition design, AV integration and lighting teams.

Explorations Central
Holland America Line, 2017

'Second Story worked with Holland America Line, a leader in the premium cruise industry, to create Explorations Central (EXC), an interactive space that celebrates the power of travel to enrich our lives. Onboard experiences orient and educate, piquing curiosity and inspiring adventure. Interactive maps help guests dream bigger as they work with the ship’s knowledgeable crew to customize their time onshore.

Guests can also discover the tastes, traditions, and events that have shaped the destinations on their itinerary, share highlights from their own world travels, and learn more about the ship they’re traveling on. We piloted Explorations Central on the msWesterdam—and it was a rousing success. By 2019, the entire Holland America Line fleet will have EXCs of their own.' Second Story

'How do you create a single space that serves two distinct groups of museum goers: those hungry for more insight and those looking to take a break? For SFMOMA’s grand reopening, we designed a new space that seamlessly blends cafe and art gallery, digital and physical.

Interactive installations let visitors explore how photography shapes our perceptions of the world. Visitors engage using custom analog controls inspired by 35mm film camera dials. From the materials and finishes, to the centralized seating and quiet integration of media, the gallery lets visitors flow through, socialize, dive deep into the museum collection, and relax and sip their lattes with equal ease.'  Second Story

Make Some Room Workshop Participant

Make Some Room Unconscious Bias Workshop
Sapient, 2016

Make Some Room is an empathy building, three-hour, unconscious bias training experience that is original, authentic, and thoughtfully executed for real change. MSR was achieved by designing a facilitated, site specific workshop that uses storytelling and responsive, RFID technology to take participants on an emotional journey through their ever day workplace. Using audio interviews recorded with employees that are triggered by specific office locations the experience makes the invisible visible by placing employees in the shoes of their peers. From intrigue & anticipation, discomfort & surprise to empathy and empowerment, it’s an experience that lasts in people’s minds long after they leave the workshop.

Details: 14,000 SF office space was transformed into an interactive “theatre” with RFID activated zones where participants hear from marginalized coworkers during this three-hour experience with facilitated, workshop - style introduction and close.

'Second Story's launch event for Nokia’s new VR camera let Hollywood step inside the future of filmmaking. Nokia wanted to redefine their brand within the filmmaking industry. Second Story delivered by transforming 38,000 sq. ft. of raw industrial space in downtown LA into an experiential tour of OZO’s 360 vision and sound capabilities. 

Responsible for every detail of the event and environment, we architected an immersive brand world that let Hollywood’s top creatives step through the looking glass into a world of infinite possibility: the world of OZO.'  Second Story

The Vornado Screen at Times Square

'Standing nine stories tall and spanning an entire city block, the 4K screen above the Times Square Marriott Marquis was officially the world’s largest. But rather than just flipping a switch to bring it online, owner Vornado Realty Trust wanted to introduce the crown jewel of their outdoor advertising portfolio in jaw-dropping fashion. Eight weeks later, it was up to us to show everyone what 24 million pixels can do.

Second Story collaborated with Universal Everything to create an epic launch that showcased the screen’s size, resolution, and capacity for interactivity for prospective media buyers and more than 400,000 daily passersby. Featured everywhere from The New York Times to the BBC to the Today Show, the screen's launch racked up 530 million media impressions in the first 48 hours.'  Second Story

Additional Details: The screen activation was accompanied by an industry VIP party, which took place in the raw shell space immediately below it in Times Square.
